by Mell Navarro posted on October 29, 2013 Formally declared the 39th Metro Manila Film Festival committee's five official finalists for the New Wave section, full-length feature category. The year 2010 has launched MMFF committee organizing the "Tribute to Independent Cinema," a non-competition section for independent films. Following year (2011), which was inspired Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Chairman Francis Tolentino continued popularity of indie films in the country. In support he saw it, he formally added the New Wave section to further expand the MMFF. We are happy to announce Island Dreams is one of the finalists for the 39th Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) - New Wave category ATTENTION: Following are the OFFICIAL FINALISTS in the 2013 Metro Manila Film Festival New Wave Full Feature Section: 2013 Metro Manila Film Festival New Wave Full Feature Section: (Titles in alphabetical order) 1. Santos: Guns and Horses Published on Monday, July 15, 2013 Your upcoming film Island Dreams, unlike The Animals, wasn’t written and produced by you. How did you get involved in this project? What drew you to it? Aloy Adlawan is a good friend of mine and he asked me to come on board as his co-director. The challenge was to make a romantic comedy that would be different from the ones here in terms of look, style, and a little bit of the humor, since we had a Hollywood producer. We were challenged to make something that would be up to par with international standards. Plus, I’ve always wanted to make a romantic comedy. All in all, we all had a great time shooting the film. We also had our other good friend, Carlo Mendoza (Rosario, Manila Kingpin, El Presidente, Bwakaw, etc) on board for cinematography, so it was a very fun set. Interview by Denise Fernandez

Island Dreams filming started on March 18, 2013 in Batangas, Philippines ended March 28, 2013 and the subsequent post-production continued in Manila and San Francisco. Target for completion of the film is end of September, 2013. Stay tune for more updates and trailer info.
